PORN SUCKS
Reality strikes back.. Seven weeks ago I was super tempted to look at porn. Time of the term maybe? Nevertheless I realised once again that porn sucks. Yeah, so I distracted myself with playing music or listening to Tycho or something along those lines. I just can’t believe how easily the mind can verge into dark thoughts.
Like 94% of guys in the world, I know what it means to plunge into the wails of pornographic hell. The materialisation of women, the choking of virtue, the pangs of believing a self-crafted chimera. It’s all a fake sense of intimacy, its all obscene illusion.
A random guy watches porn for two hours and feels that sense of guilt and shame and all those emasculating vibes that come with the act..
- He then tries to love his wife. But he can’t genuinely look her in the eyes.
- He then tries to comfort his daughter. But he can’t authentically tell her that she’s a princess.
- He then tries to be there for his old friend. But he can’t whole heartedly feel like he’s truly a man of honour.
A fracturing of the soul, a butchering to the courageous spirit of a man..
Porn sucks.
I believe that for me that there is a calling and a responsibility that I have a as a human; to rise above and treat my fellow species with full heart and full respect.
The commandment that Jesus of Nazareth gave 2000 years ago was to love. He even said that the fulfilment of all ancient Jewish law was one thing, love.
This isn’t a rant about how bad we are. It’s not the passionate voice of a raging fundamentalist alarming us all to repent or perish. I’m simply talking about love. I’m appealing to you about the need to rediscover our humanity and fight for our volume to love others.
I believe that within all of us is such a capacity to love, a desire to love completely.
Porn for so many of us has fractured this love tank.
Today, we can reclaim and rebuild.
Perception is everything. The way we see women, the way we see ourselves, the way we see our responsibility to mankind, it changes everything.
In the words of the ancient Latin philosopher Publius Cyrus,
Would you have a great empire? Rule over yourself.
Truthfully, I LOVE the idea of living the big life. Big doesn't mean driving a Cadillac, owning 5 bedroom home and having a supermodel for a wife. Those things could be great! However, for me it means opening your heart SO big to people, expressing in the most personal way how special and unique they truly are. Being 'big' and generous with the way you love on people.
I wrote my own eulogy again this week. Quite frankly, I wouldn't care at all if no one said anything about my music ability at my funeral. Nor what I worry if they didn't say anything about the amount of countries I travelled. Mate, it's all about the love. I would hope with all of my heart that I would be remembered for love. I wrote down:
Billy loved people like no other. His heart was so big.
In the words of punk legend Henry Rollins, "we gotta rise above, we gotta rise above”.
In the words of Frozen, we gotta “let it go, let it go.”
In the words of Taylor Swift, we gotta “shake it off, shake it of.”
In the words of Snoop Doggy Dog, we gotta “drop it like its hot, drop it like its hot.”
In the words of Jesus, we have to be "born from above."
Love and Peace and Hugs forever and ever amen.
